When UT Health San Antonio asked Parallel to create a dedication event for their Multispecialty and Research Hospital (MRH), the request was more bittersweet than we could have imagined. The unexpected passing of UT Health’s much loved president who was the heart and soul of the new hospital brought a tempered mood to the occasion. We developed a theme of “Hope is Emerging” that would capture the optimism of the day and while paying homage to the spirit of all of our loved ones, past and present.
We utilized the rich visual language of the monarch butterfly, a traditional symbol of renewal, to convey the transformative power of the Multispecialty and Research Hospital to bring a new level of care to the people of San Antonio and life-saving research to the world.
The environment at the event blended inspiring imagery, language, and video to immerse participants in the optimism, excellence, and compassion at the heart of the mission of the hospital and UT Health. The program culminated with a reading by Dr. Carmen Tafolla, former poet laureate of Texas and San Antonio, of a poem commissioned for the occasion that captured the emotional depth of a journey toward healing.
